Trinity is helping those in need and sharing the Gospel of Christ through:
At Trinity Lutheran Church, mission is not a separate program tacked onto congregational life—it is the fruit of the Gospel. Christ serves His Church with forgiveness, life, and salvation through His Word and Sacraments, and that mercy naturally overflows into love for neighbor. We do not help others to earn God’s favor. We help because, in Christ, we have already received God’s favor freely, and we are sent to love in tangible ways.
That begins close to home through donations to local food banks. Food banks do more than stock shelves: they coordinate the collection and distribution of groceries, partner with pantries and community agencies, and make sure families can access staple items during seasonal layoffs, medical crises, or unexpected expenses. When Trinity gives to food banks, that support becomes real meals, boxes of food, produce, and essentials that help stabilize households and reduce the stress that can crush a family’s week.
Trinity also provides aid to local families in need, which often looks like meeting immediate, practical needs when hardship hits: assistance with utilities, fuel, groceries, or other urgent necessities. This kind of support is often most effective when it is timely and personal, offered with discretion, prayer, and a commitment to treat neighbors with dignity rather than as a “project.”
We also support those who serve the public good. Local fire departments are often volunteer-based and rely on community support to maintain readiness: training, protective gear, equipment upkeep, and the capacity to respond quickly to house fires, vehicle accidents, and medical emergencies. Trinity’s support is one way we say, “Thank you,” and help ensure that help is available when our neighbors are in danger.
Because Christian mission is never only about material relief, Trinity also prioritizes the gift of God’s Word. We help provide military Bible sticks, which are audio Scripture devices designed for service members, especially helpful in environments where reading is difficult, time is limited, or durable formats are needed. Hearing God’s Word in the midst of deployment, training, or recovery can be a profound comfort, anchoring the conscience in Christ’s promises.
We also work to provide Bibles to those in our communities who have none. This is simple, direct outreach: putting the Scriptures into people’s hands so they can read, learn, and be strengthened by the Gospel. The Church’s mission is not merely to offer inspiration, but to deliver the Word that creates faith and sustains hope.
Trinity’s mission support extends into the life of the wider Church through the revitalization of Saints Peter and Paul Lutheran Church of Central City and Holy Cross of Johnstown. Revitalization means helping congregations remain faithful and stable, supporting Word-and-Sacrament ministry, encouraging outreach, and strengthening the long-term ability to serve their communities with pastoral care and clear teaching.
Finally, Trinity supports PALM, a missions group that funds Word-and-Sacrament ministries across the greater Pittsburgh area. That means supporting the kinds of mission efforts that build and sustain Christian congregations: faithful preaching, Baptism, the Lord’s Supper, catechesis, and pastoral care, so that communities are not only served, but are gathered around Christ’s gifts where He has promised to give them. If you would like to learn more, pray, or partner with Trinity in these efforts, we welcome your involvement. Christian mission is Christ’s mercy at work, daily bread for neighbors, help in real hardship, and the saving Word that endures forever.
